To do trade business with any country, it is essential that you should have an IMPORTER EXPORTER CODE.
IMPORTER EXPORTER CODE is a 10 digit code which is issued by the Directorate General of Foreign Trade, Govt. of India.
For getting this, you need to fill an IEC Online Application form available at dgft.gov.in. Some documents are necessary to be submitted along with this form. A scanned copy in GIF format of the following:
- Bank certificate
- PAN card copy
- Date of Birth certificate
- Demand draft of Rs. 250 (please verify if there is any change in the latest amount)
- You can find detailed list of documents required for IEC.
Filling up the form is an easy task and you can skip Section – C (it is for those who already have the code)
If the form is filled and submitted without any flaws, then it will be sent through the speed post to the specified address. It is also a way to verify the address of the Importer/Exporter. Once issued, it is valid for a life long period.
